Amy Staunton, CPA

Consulting Controller

Amy is a mid-senior level member of AAFCPAs’ Managed Accounting Solutions (MAS) practice, providing outsourced, cloud-based finance & accounting support for nonprofits, foundations, and grant-making organizations. She works with executive management to establish and maintain systems and controls that verify the integrity of all systems, processes, and data. She identifies areas of improvement and helps organizations to address fluctuating needs and priorities with proactive anticipation and thoughtful planning.

Amy is an initiative-taking, creative-thinking individual who is interested in driving change within the nonprofits she serves. As a key member of the finance function, she manages all aspects of accounting and financial reporting, including: oversight of accounts receivable and disbursements, making the bi-monthly closing entries, producing board reports, maintaining restricted and endowment funds, conducting financial analyses as needed, and managing the annual audit. She also manages foundation & corporate grantor contracts and reimbursement requests, and oversees responsible management of endowment funds and investment revenue. She assists in the creation of annual budgets and monitors cash flow. She reviews and approves preparation and finalization of monthly and annual financial reporting materials and benchmarking metrics for Executive Management and Boards of Directors, which assists in strategic decision making.

Amy possesses numerous attributes attractive to AAFCPAs’ MAS clients, including: high proficiency with financial systems and software, as well as a keen understanding of the needs of nonprofit executive management, boards of directors, program managers, grantors, donors, and nonprofit regulators. Her strong background includes 20+ years of experience in assurance practices of national public accounting firms, which gives her a solid foundation in best practices for financial statement presentation and internal control procedures for diverse nonprofits. She also has extensive experience with annual filing requirements and the 990-series forms and understands how these filings inform the public about crucial aspects of a nonprofit.
